Roughly 50 automobiles have been marked with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.
Automobiles, building surfaces and postal boxes were marked, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they announced in a statement.
Police state they were notified during the night on Wednesday evening, when a resident observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish liquid.
The substance had been placed in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Officers then discovered many other vandalized vehicles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
Swastikas are banned in Germany under legislation outlawing the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials say preliminary tests indicate the fluid was probably human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no lead as to where it came from; investigators are presently not aware of any physical harm in association with the event," they stated.
Municipal representatives said they were working "to unravel the case" and have asked to the public for information.
A senior official stated the attack rendered him without words and had to be resolved quickly.
"This act strikes at the core of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the extremist attack five years ago," he stated on social media, referring to the murder of nine individuals by a assailant aiming at people of migrant background in 2020.
